Self-Repairing Lawn Seed Mix – Patch Repair – Mr. Green Grass®
Self-Repairing lawn seed mix is the perfect choice for those looking to refresh and rejuvenate an existing turf, especially in thinned or damaged areas. Overseeding—strengthening, densifying, and regenerating by adding new seed—is particularly useful in such situations.
Therefore, if you plan to establish an entirely new lawn, you need a different blend designed specifically for that purpose: our All-Purpose Lawn Seed Mix or Sports Lawn Seed Mix – Pro Performance. Our self-repairing mix truly revolutionises lawn care. Its unique self-thickening ability makes turf more resilient to weather extremes such as drought and heavy rainfall. Moreover, its self-repairing properties ensure bare or damaged patches are quickly filled in, maintaining an attractive, healthy appearance year-round. Garden owners no longer need to worry about uneven spots. This seed blend performs excellently in home gardens and larger green spaces alike, delivering a dense, green carpet that catches the eye and makes any gardener proud.
Excellent Blend
Perennial Ryegrass Boxer (25%) is a variety with an intense green color that is characterized by very rapid turf formation. It guarantees an immediate effect of a dense lawn. Its high resistance to mechanical damage and foot traffic makes it a key ingredient for strengthening the lawn’s structure.
Perennial Ryegrass Lolius (50%) is a high-density variety that ensures quick and effective ground cover. It is extremely resistant to heavy use, including foot traffic, which makes it ideal for high-traffic lawns. Its high regeneration capacity allows for the quick renewal of the turf after damage and helps maintain a healthy and compact lawn.
Perennial Ryegrass Turfgold (25%) stands out with its very good tolerance for low mowing and high disease resistance. It gives the lawn a dense, carpet-like appearance and helps maintain its aesthetics. This variety also features good winter hardiness, which helps preserve the beautiful look of the lawn all year round.
The combination of the fast-growing Ryegrass Boxer with the high-quality varieties Lolius and Turfgold creates an ideal synergy. Ryegrass Boxer provides an immediate effect of a dense, green carpet, while Ryegrass Lolius and Turfgold build a durable, compact, and traffic-resistant lawn structure. Thanks to this, the turf is not only beautiful but also exceptionally durable for years to come.
Application
The self-repairing lawn seed mix can be sown from March through the end of June and from early September to mid-October under stable weather conditions, avoiding periods of drought and frost. Recommended rate: 25–35 g of seed per 1 m².
Begin by verticutting the lawn (verticutter) or power raking it deeply to loosen the topsoil. Sow using a rotary or drop spreader, distributing the seed evenly, then water thoroughly. Maintain consistent soil moisture during germination by watering twice daily for 2–3 weeks. After that period, water regularly and evenly, preferably in the morning, adjusting frequency to weather conditions—typically twice weekly with 10–15 litres per m².
The first mowing should be carried out once the grass reaches 8–10 cm in height, cutting it back to 5 cm.
