Errors in pitch maintenance
Inappropriate grass pitch maintenance or the lack of it causes rapid wear and even destruction of the pitch surface. The main factors contributing to this are the use of unsuitable fertilisers (agricultural instead of specialised) and poor drainage, causing excess water retention, which negatively affects the game. Surface compaction destroys air flow channels, preventing water from soaking through to the roots. The ground becomes too hard for anything to penetrate it. As a result, roots stay shallow under the surface. In this way, the surface is quickly destroyed, becoming uneven and bumpy. Only through proper maintenance can excellent quality turf be achieved on the pitch. Coaches and players must be aware that a frequent cause of injury is an uneven or too hard pitch surface. Moreover, shallow roots provide minimal grip for football boots. Sprained ankles and injuries thus become very likely. Therefore, it is worth professionally caring for the stadium turf to eliminate these factors and enjoy playing on a perfectly prepared surface.
